Queen of the North Atlantic by Lesley Luce explores Canada’s evolving identity through the imagery and symbolism of its postage stamps. The title references both the deep blue palette of the work and a fragment drawn from the Bluenose stamp, the iconic schooner often referred to as the “Queen of the North Atlantic.” The work assembles a visual archive of how Canada has represented itself across generations. From a distance, the composition appears as a bold geometric pattern. Up close, its intricate details reveal layers of symbols and references, forming a portrait of national identity shaped by history, endurance, and life along the Atlantic.
