Where the Flags Fly, Triptych 0412 by Lesley Luce explores Canada’s evolving identity through the imagery and symbolism of its postage stamps. Presented as a triptych, the work assembles a visual archive of how Canada has represented itself across generations. The title is drawn from a fragment of the Hanlan’s Point Beach stamp, an important gathering place for Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ community. From a distance, the composition appears as a bold geometric pattern. Up close, its intricate details reveal layers of symbols and references, from early pre-Confederation stamps to images of visibility, belonging, and national identity, forming a portrait of the stories that shape who is seen, and where.
