The concentric circles of 50 Years, Composition 0819 by Lesley Luce honour five decades of love, family, and memory. Commissioned by Hanna and Hamed Faghfoury to celebrate the 50TH wedding anniversary of their parents, Nahid Roboubi and Mostafa Faghfoury, this deeply personal work weaves together visual fragments from a shared life: milestones, heirlooms, and quiet moments arranged into a layered tribute.

Throughout the work are images of treasured objects that anchor the composition in meaning: an ancient coin from Mostafa’s personal collection, the delicate lace from Nahid’s wedding dress, and portraits drawn from family albums. Radiating outward, the rings include details from Persian rugs, archival travel photographs, symbols of Canadian identity, and joyful scenes from family life.

Shades of green and pink, inspired by the Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa, thread through the piece, evoking renewal and celebration. The circular format reflects the cyclical nature of memory and legacy, showing how love, like art, grows deeper with time.

From a distance, 50 Years appears as a striking abstract form. Up close, it reveals a curated family archive where every paper fragment helps tell the story of a marriage, a shared life, and the generations shaped by both.

Each piece comes with a companion booklet, acting as a legend to uncover the source images and stories behind the details. Explore the PDF below to dive deeper into the artwork's meaning.
